MUDCRUTCH w/ Tom Petty and The Shelters play SOLD OUT Fillmore Philadelphia

Tom Petty's revived band, Mudcrutch packed a sold out crowd into The Fillmore Philadelphia on Tuesday June 7th, 2016 with special guests The Shelters.

Warner Bro. Records signees, The Shelters opening the night with a 40 minute set starting at 8pm sharp, The Shelters are a 4 piece band from Los Angeles, CA. The band is made up of Guitarist/Vocalist Josh Jove, Guitarists/Vocalist Chase Simpson, Bassist Jacob Pillot, and drummer Sebastian Harris. Their Psychedelic sound serenaded the crowd while they all anxiously awaited the return of Mudcrutch. Performing songs off their soon to be released full length Self-Titled album (Preorder it here) throughout their set making the crowd go crazy for them, jammin', singing, and dancing, even screaming some of the lyrics along. The guitar shredding and riffs throughout their set was extraordinary and at times mind blowing. The beautiful blend of instruments fit perfectly with both vocalists harmonies and vocals. One song that really stuck out to me during their performance was "Rebel Heart," which is the first single off their self-titled record coming out on June 10th. The Shelters were the perfect choice for an opening act for Mudcrutch, they definitely warmed up the crowd and got them amped for Tom Petty's Mudcrutch.

Before Tom Petty was rocking around with the Heartbreakers, which would then go on to earn multiplatinum success and a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he played bass in a Gainesville, FL. band called Mudcrutch. Mudcrutch, which features three of The Heartbreakers from Tom Petty, to guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench. The just over two-hour, 20-song setlist concert also showed Tom Petty made a great decision in reviving Mudcrutch. The band whose members include guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboard player Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers, plus guitarist Leadon and drummer Randall Marsh. They played albums Mudcrutch (2008) & and Mudcrutch 2 (2016). Covering Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's "Trailer", and The Byrd's "Lover Of The Bayou". The band announcing that Tom Petty will be inducted into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame on Thursday June 9th, 2016. The crowd then going crazy after hearing the news which brought on a quite lengthy standing ovation from everyone in attendance. Philly loves Mudcrutch and as Tom Petty said himself "I have been coming here to Philadelphia for over 40 years now and I always have had great shows and great crowds so Thank You Philly!"

Mudcrutch was that band that got Tom Petty out of his home state of Florida, with a record deal that took them to Los Angeles, CA, where they promptly broke up after releasing just one single. (Tom Petty then retained Campbell and Tench in his new group, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) Reforming Mudcrutch in the 2000's and now for a second time allows him to explore what might have been, and clearly has motivated him to put his best foot forward. Overall, Mudcrutch and The Shelters showed Philadelphia what Rock'n Roll is and gave us the show we all have been waiting for!
