Dashboard Confessional & Third Eye Blind Invade Philadelphia's Festival Pier
On Sunday, Dashboard Confessional returned to the stage in Philadelphia for the first time in nearly four years. The band opened their set with their emotional hit single 'Screaming Infidelities,' which originally brought the band to the forefront of MTV airplay back in the early 2000's.
For over an hour, the beloved MTV-era emo band powered through a collection of popular songs from their 6 studio albums. Lead singer Chris Carrabba consumed the crowd's energy with every chord and expressed his sincere gratitude throughout the set. Thrown into the mix was a cover of 'Back To You'-- a song from Carrabba's other band Twin Forks, in which he invited his fellow bandmate Shawn Zorn to solo drum in center stage.
The set concluded a full-circle of nostalgia with Dashboard Confessional's two most infamous song: 'Vindicated' (from the blockbuster film Spider Man) and 'Hands Down'-- which obviously made the night the best day the crowd could ever remember.
After the sun set over the Delaware River and the sand-covered pier packed to the brim, Third Eye Blind began the second headline set of the night. The guitar interlude got the restless crowd's attention as the lights flickered on the now fog-filled stage. Much like Dashboard Confessional, the band opened with one of their familiar songs 'Graduate,' amping up the energy for the evening.
While many fans were in attendance to relive the 90's, Third Eye Blind did recently release a new record Dopamine-- their first studio album in over five years. The new songs like 'Everything Is Easy' and a cover of Beyonce's 'Mine' were well-received by the nostalgic crowd. Of course no 3EB set would be complete without 'Jumper' and an encore of 'Something In You' (Dopamine) and 'Semi-Charmed Life.'
If you're looking to relive some of the pivotal music moments of the late 90's and early 2000's, do not miss Dashboard Confessional and Third Eye Blind on tour together this summer.
