Jesse Lawson - Chapter II (Album Review)
Chapter II is the first release from former Sleeping With Sirens guitarist Jesse Lawson. He launched an indiegogo campaign early in the spring as he did not want to go through a label, and have to deal with managers and agents, etc. After the birth of his first child, he wanted a break from non-stop touring but he wasn't done with music, thus Chapter II! Lawson surpassed his goal of $15,000 and raised $15,068 for his campaign! The EP is an easy listen at only 6 songs. It is much calmer and more mellow than the sound of Sleeping With Sirens, however I don't think it's fair to compare the two as they're almost different genres. Chapter II is more alt-rock than anything. The standout track, to me, is the entire album! However, "Good to Leave" has got to be the one that's stands out the most. Something about the 'military' style drumrolls that can be heard really gets my attention. The lyrics are also wonderful; "No, I don't wanna go. I don't wanna think about home. Follow your dreams son, but make time for me. And when you call out, just know I'll always be here for you." It gave me 'the feels'. Fan reception has been phenomenal! So many folks are so proud and supportive, and are very much enjoying Lawson as a solo act. All I see is praise and positivity for h branching out on his own, and that's amazing.
Rating 4/5: Wow! Great album! I'm very happy to see the success that Jesse is having already in his solo career. This album more than surpassed my expectations, and I can't wait to see what this year holds for Jesse Lawson!
