Angels Shall Sin, Demons Shall Pray - Chelsea Grin (Song Review)

“Angles Shall Sin, Demons Shall Pray” is the latest single from Utah deathcore outfit Chelsea Grin. The track was released May 12th via the band’s Vevo channel on YouTube. It is the second single off of their upcoming album Ashes to Ashes due out July 8, 2014 through Artery Recordings.

There is an obvious religious overtone in the lyrics, which you could probably figure from looking at the title, though it’s not the most uplifting song you’ll hear. The lyrics “You say you’re close to God? I’d really like to meet Him” takes quite the stab at Christianity. However taking an objective view it’s an interesting statement. Also, “scream my name. Feel my pain. I’ll bleed you dry of faith” is another line with the same gist as the former.

It seems with this track fans either love it or hate it, there it no middle ground. Many are saying it sounds a lot like Born of Osiris, they aren’t satisfied with the lack of ‘high screams’ from front man Alex Koehler either. But the fans that love it, love it with a burning passion.

Rating: 3.5/5- This song wasn’t my favorite. I’ve never been that huge into deathcore, and it seems like most of what I’ve heard in that genre sound similar (note I said most, not all). Now I’m not saying it’s not a good track, but to me personally it was a little repetitive. When I think catchy hooks I don’t think deathcore. I’ll have to wait and see what the rest of the album has in store because (say it with me kids) you don’t judge an album by the singles.
