Mad - Emarosa (Song Review)

“Mad” is the first single off the third studio album Versus from Kentucky rockers Emarosa. The album does not yet have a solid release date, however, Rise Records has said that it is “coming soon-ish”, so it will be released within the year. There were a few rumors surrounding Emarosa as to who the new vocalist would be. It was rumored that Tilia Pearson would be the new lead singer since he was featured on a demo song in 2013, however Pearson discredited those rumors himself. Later, it was announced the position would be filled by Bradley Walden (Squid the Whale). The song, “Mad” is better than what I was expecting. The lyrics were wonderful, it took me a few times to read them over to understand, though. Instrumentally it’s very well put together and produced. At some points it does sound as though Walden’s voice sounds strained and forced at some points, but it’s not awful. The vocals are actually quite nice, easy to listen to and melodic. As expected, people are comparing Walden and Craig; though a majority are being respectful about it, which is almost shocking at this point since I just expect people to be jerks. While Walden and Craig do sound similar in some respects, it’s not fair to compare the two whose vocal ranges are incredibly different.

Rating 4/5: I like this song. Plain and simple. Based on what people were saying about the song on Twitter, I was nervous that it would sound awful, but I was very pleasantly surprised it wasn’t. Walden’s vocals are on point for most of the song, however as stated before some parts sound slightly off, but that should just show that the song isn’t over produced. Be sure to catch Emarosa on The Devil’s Dance Tour with Chiodos at a venue near you!
