Extinction - Structures (Song Review)
“Extinction” is the second single off Canadian metalcore outfit Structures upcoming album Life Through a Window which is due for release May 13th via Sumerian Records. The band is very excited about this album, stating via Facebook; “...we truly have never felt better about our music as we do now.” There was also confirmation that this album would be a change from what we’ve usually heard from them, we all know what that means! Most of the reactions that I’ve seen from fans has been less than kind. Most of the comments in the comments section I can’t even pull quotes from; I can’t tell if they’re just being trolls or there are legitimately that many people making douchey comments. However there are a few that do like the song, and can’t wait for the rest of the album. A few commenters attended a listening party and say, basically, the rest of the album isn’t exactly like “Extinction”, and for people to just wait and stop judging. The track itself is intense, in your face, fast paced and keeps your attention. It’s a fairly quick listen in just under 3 minutes. While it is a huge change from the heavier, more technical sounds of past works, it doesn’t suck by any means. Structures will also be on a co-headlining tour with Counterparts this summer. Betrayal and Villans are also confirmed on the line up. Be sure to snag a pre order of Life Through a Window via iTunes or the band’s merch store.
Rating: 3.5/5- I don’t see what all the fuss is about! The song is good. Granted, I don’t have much to compare it to at the current time seeing as I’ve only listened to a handful of Structures songs, but it’s not a horrible sounding song by any means. I know, I know, everyone’s entitled to an opinion. But guess what? Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and they usually stink. I’m fairly sure they’ll release one more single before the album drops, but who knows. Honestly I think it’s a pretty good song, and it wakes me up in the morning, what more could you ask for in a song?
