The Edge - Tonight Alive (Song Review)

‘The Edge’ Tonight Alive is a five piece pop-punk band hailing all the way from Sydney, Australia. Their latest single The Edge was released on April 1, 2014 and will also be in the upcoming film The Amazing Spiderman 2. The single is available on iTunes for digital download. The Edge is an upbeat, melodic song. Seemingly, at least based on lyrical content, the speaker in the song is usually a strong person, however even the strongest person always needs someone to save them; “And I will fight until the day the world stops turning. And they will fall to ashes, I will just keep burning. But tonight, I need you to save me. I'm too close to breaking.” Front woman Jenna McDougall’s voice will fill your ear holes with this simple, yet powerful message. While the quality of the song as I heard it, since it was off of a recording of a BBC radio show, wasn’t the best. However I’m sure that has nothing to do with the actual production value of the song, since it was unable to be found on YouTube (minus the teaser of the song and music video) since it was taken down due to copyright. What I was able to find on BBC Radio 1 was good, but the actual digital download I’m sure will be much crisper and cleaner, and I can’t wait to get mine.

Rating: 4/5- Taking out of consideration the quality for it being on the radio, the song was great. As stated before the message is simple, but something we need to be reminded of often. The strongest person we know will always need someone to be there for them. Also, considering a foreign, female fronted band was chosen to be on a soundtrack for such a huge movie, gotta give props! Mostly the rock scene is an all boys game, not many chicks can hang (but I’m seeing more and more bands with ladies in them or fronting them, it makes the feminist in me happy), but when they can, they shine! Great song, great band, and I have a soft spot for Australian accents. Get this song, and go see The Amazing Spiderman 2 when it hits theaters near you!
