On October 1st, Chasin’ Crazy, one of the most exciting young acts in country music, released “Trespassin,” their brand new non-radio single and music video. While still very new to the game, anyone who has seen this group live knows how talented they are as musicians, vocalists and songwriters, and this song puts every one of these strengths on display. Comprised of versatile artists Landon Parker (guitar, vocals), Travis Fincher (drums, vocals), Jimmy James Hunter (guitar, vocals), Creigh Riepe (keyboards, guitar, vocals), and Forest Miller (bass, fiddle, mandolin, vocals), the group features a diverse range of talent and skill that sets them apart both vocally and instrumentally. Chasin’ Crazy has an irresistible, vibrant energy to them that is ubiquitous in this new track.
“Trespassin,” like the group’s previous two singles features a pleasant combination of powerful group vocals/harmonies and solo vocal efforts, (Parker, Hunter) though the former style is most prominent in this song. Also consistent with earlier releases, Parker, when featured individually assaults listeners with deep, resonant vocals that contribute to the hard edge the song possesses. Despite embracing many familiar elements, this track as a whole is strikingly different than any song the group has released thus far. While previous singles “That’s How We Do Summertime” and “Smack Dab” featured more polished, pop production and were somewhat fluffy lyrically, “Trespassin” is their most “country” song yet. This track embraces an enticing rootsy, and somewhat swampy vibe in addition to including a banjo and an invigorating beat. This style, more than any other is undoubtedly where the group is in their element and most authentic to whom they are as musicians and artists.
The music video the group created perfectly embodies the style of both the song and the group itself. The video starts with the band out in the country in exploring a eerie, rundown, old barn, attired in glamorously dirty western style clothing. It then transitions into the group having an impromptu jam session in the middle of the woods after discovering and turning on an old record player. The spontaneous nature of the video is charming and blends seamlessly with the song, as well as the carefree charm, sparkling chemistry and unassuming talent Chasin’ Crazy has to offer. “Trespassin” is easily the strongest song that “Chasin’ Crazy” has yet to release. With this track, fans are witnessing a young, talented group discovering their sound and growing musically. With a debut album or EP no doubt on the way for the group in the near future, “Trespassin” gives fans a delightful taste of what is to come.
